1. to saturate to excess: »

Cholesterol gallstones form when excess cholesterol precipitates from bile supersaturated with cholesterol (Joseph B. Kirsner).

2. to dissolve more of a solute in (a solvent) than is sufficient to saturate it. A supersaturated solution is one in which more of a substance is dissolved than the solvent will hold under normal conditions.
